WOW talk about a surprise, the Yarmouth House was it during our vacation week on the Cape. At the last minute, we had a change of plans and ended up going here around 8:30. Very nice inside - though it had this almost Mandarin feel to the surroundings (with the exception on the paddle wheel). Started with the clam chowder which I had expected to be mediocre. Wrong! Really good - nice and creamy with soft clams and potatoes. One of the best I've found on the Cape. My wife and I each had the Filet Mignon ala Neptune (lobster on top with hollandaise sauce) which was delicious. The kids had Chicken Atlantis (chicken, scallops and lobster over rice with a tarragon cream sauce) and a special Scallops Gorgonzola -- both were great. The service was very good. Overall - the food was great though a little pricey. For the last night of our vacation though - the Yarmouth House was a great pick. Highly recommend!

After many attempts to find a restaurant that accommodates large groups we finally found one! Very excited that they serve fish bowls here. But the food was mediocre, nothing really stood out.

The place is beautiful , the ambience nice , and service is wonderful . But, the food for the price you pay not so great . I was kind of disappointed as were the large party I was with . If I was rating the service ..++++, but the food , not so much . But I am willing to try again

Perhaps a table of 6 means that you get the slowest waitress ever - I'm not sure, but it seemed that way. This could have been a 5 star review if it weren't for the horrible service. The table of 4 next to us was seated about 10 minutes after us and was done about 40 minutes before us. The worse was when 5 of us had food and the sixth person had to wait another 5 minutes for their entree SALAD to come out. The food was wonderful; everyone enjoyed their meals. The small plates were actually quite large. My daughter and her boyfriend decided to share a few; 5 to be exact. There was so much food, that they actually ended up taking some home. The mussels alone were enough for an entire meal. The fish in my fish and chips was okay, but the chips were delicious! My husband thoroughly enjoyed the fisherman's stew. So, I guess your experience may just depend on the wait staff assigned to your table. In spite of that, I will still go back.

I looked on Yelp and found some recent low star reviews, some commenting on slow service. Just went here tonight. Service was fast. We had water, hot bread and drinks in less than five minutes. The food was superb. My wife had the lazy lobster and raved that it was amazing. I had the Scallops Carbonara. Simply great. Not sure about the reviews that said otherwise. In short, excellent service and food. Would recommend to any one.

Came here while my mother and I were visiting relatives on the cape. Atmosphere was comfortable and classy. Our waitress seemed a bit off, but nothing terrible. She seemed very busy with two newly weds at the table next to us. Oh well. I ordered the sirloin steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Also a bowl of clam chowder. Chowder was excellent, the steak was good. The only so so part was the desert. I ordered apple crisp. Not crispy at all, just soggy. Will return here as this is a family favorite.

Can't go wrong here. Great restaurant, with great staff, and a great owner. If you're looking for a nice meal on the Cape, definitely check our Yarmouth House. Everything you order will be delicious. I always recommend when tourist ask for recommendations. I even send all my family and friends here.

All I can say is three words, heaven on earth! The food is outstanding and the portions are not small. The staff is upbeat, very attentive and friendly. Very organized and getting you in and getting you out even though many times it is very crowded due to an excellent reputation. They are open year round. Before you begin your meal they give you fresh baked bread and olive oil that you want to bring home with you. You have to try the scallops it is a huge portion and it is incredibly delicious. The fish specials are extremely worth every dime. We will be back over and over again. We go to the Cape a few times a year and this is definitely worth I stop each time.

Judging from the variety of ratings it may be safe to say that the only thing consistent about this place is its inconsistency. We went last night for a nice dinner to celebrate the end of our summer vacations. There were 7 of us in total:5 adults and 2 kids. The worst part of the meal was the slowness. It took almost 2 hours from the time we sat down until we left. Every time the waiter said he'd be "right back" with something it was closer to 15 minutes later when we'd see him again. The food was average at best. But the prices are for food that should be amazing. There is so much mediocre food on the cape - so, so much -why pay double what you could pay at most other restaurants? And then there were food issues. We had raw oysters that seemed like they'd been barely cleaned. So many shell pieces in my mouth. My wife had seafood bisque which was luke warm and more potato than seafood. There were a few shell pieces for her to find in it as well. I had a scallop dish off the specials list and there was so much sand in my scallops that I couldn't eat them. Scallops shouldn't crunch. I know others like this place and we do wonder if we just had bad luck. But the place is too friggin expensive for us to risk it and try again.

Food was not bad but was kind of bland. And the girl who served us didn't even smile when my 7 months old was trying to talk to her. But I think other servers are fine. Just bcos of server rating this low.

I made a reservation for a dinner date because we stayed at a resort nearby, my date and I wanted to have steak and this place seemed like a great choice in the area. The hostess was very kind about taking our reservation, we arrived on time and were greeted by an older gentleman who looked very upset about us walking in. The decor is actually impressive, we didn't feel like having wine there so we didn't get a bottle, the waitress was serving 5 other tables and took way too long to come do anything. My date and I both ordered steaks, the whole wait time for our meal was around 30 minutes until I felt freezing, only to see that the steaks were over cooked (we both ordered medium rare), my steak had water all over the plate, because they actually made a mistake and had to redo the whole order, I wouldn't have been so upset if they had actually informed us first, instead they still presented a meal cooked so unprofessionally. I took two bites, the steak was so bad, even the brocolis were over cooked and didn't taste right. So I left the dishes untouched afterwards. The waitress felt very bad so she asked her manager to give us a discount off the bill, but their cashier was broken at the moment so we had to wait a very long time for anything to be solved. But I really haven't had a bad meal this bad for awhile.

We were excited to visit the Yarmouth House on the first night of our little getaway. The dining room offered nice views of the water mill along the windows and made the ambiance very relaxing for us as we dined. Shortly after we were seated, we were served their soft Italian bread with flavored house extra virgin olive oil mix for dipping. Very tasty and we had to stop ourselves from eating the whole basket before we ordered our dinners. I decided on the Thai Lobster that was advertised as one of their house specials that night. The lobster was Cape Cod grade - very fresh and every bite was bursting with the Thai peanut flavor base. That said, I did want to note that the entree was described as being served on chow mein noodles but it actually looked and tasted more like fettuccine. It was a heavier dish but very much worth the calorie splurge as it was carbo-lious. Highly recommended if you're around the area!

The food was very good and if you come Before 6 pm they have great meal deals! The waitress was kind and helpful as well as their hostesses. The ambiance was very rich and calming. I think the owners did a great job of meal selections.

Gives me the feeling of an old grandmother/grandfather run italian seafood shop. Started with the buffalo chicken, which the girl thought was awesome. Adult beverages were good as well. Had the pan seared swordfish, it was really good. I do still have some leftovers. The girl got some pan seared Bass and it was probably better than mine. Old school waiter staff, all in black, and wine glasses all around, or maybe I'm not used to fancy dining.

The Yarmouth House is a great restaurant to go with your significant other, or after a wedding reception, or something like that. Not more of a family-friendly place. It has more of a fancy and elegant feel to it than a lot of other restaurants on the Cape. It is still very good. The Penne ala Vodka is very good, and the service is nice and speedy.

Great food, atmosphere and service. Can't go wrong here. Tried the surf and turf with mashed potatoes and asparagus and was very please with all of it. Definitely recommend it as a great place for a sit-down dinner while on the cape.

Ok...so here ya go: Cold Greek hamburger, cold Jumbalaya soup and a long hair strangling my husband's french fries! Waitress was a hot mess. Sent back the hamburger and it was quickly returned to me after being nuked...nice and soggy. Husband's ruben was very messy but adequate only. Too bad the hair was discovered a bit after eating much of the meal...Think he got a hairball in his throat. Thankfully we didn't pay for it as we had a gift certificate. We'll go elsewhere from now on.

My husband and I came here and ordered the clam chowder, seafood bisque and brocolli and chicken alfredo. The soups were amazing; the bisque had so much meat in it!Seriously we are going back just to eat the soup!! The actual entree though wasnt anything special though; the sauce tasted canned :/

This place would be comparable to a Boston steak and seafood restaurant. I loved the decor, the waitstaff was spot on and the food was good. Mr. Wonderful and I both ordered the Lobster Bisque to start. It was good, but not as good as Turners Seafood. I would rate the Lobster Bisque with 3.5 stars. We also ordered the Chicken with Mushroom Risotto. (the chicken tasted like marsala) It was great, but I was stuffed and couldn't finish. As of late, I've started ordering the same thing as my boyfriend because when our meals come out of the kitchen, I always want his... not mine. Lol. However, he is much more adventurous than I am so there are some things I won't touch. Thank you for a nice experience and great food.

A cute place to get dinner in the area. It was recommended to us by the owner of the condo where we were staying and she had given us a $15 off coupon, so we figured, why not? The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and we had attentive service the whole time we were there. All the plates we ordered were tasty - the small plates are definitely big enough to serve as an entree, so this might make the restaurant more accessible to those turned off by entree prices (though we thought they were perfectly reasonable). We were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of mussels that we received when we ordered the Mussels Isabella as a starter. Overall, a solid place for a nice dinner on the Cape!

Went here for Memorial Day weekend '13 with the misses. After waiting 10 minutes for our water, we put in an appetizer, Tzatziki which would normally come with hot pita bread. No, it came with thick garlic bread. Ok, not so bad and a bit out of the ordinary. In the past we opted for toasted ravioli, but that have since removed it from their menu. We then put in our entrees... Filet mignon medium with mashed potatoes and asparagus. we also ordered a chicken Marsala. The filet was over cooked, dry and lacked flavor. The potatoes were bland. Not worth a $33 plate. The chicken Marsala was mediocre, lacked visual appeal and flavor. Overall the service was slow, perhaps because it was Memorial Day weekend, but there were several empty tables!? We have gone here several times in the past and have not been let down until now. I don't think we will be returning.

Excellent service and consistently good meals at this South Yarmouth staple. I usually do not like when lobster comes in any other form than out of the shell or in a roll however - get the Thai Lobster. It's really exceptional.

Good food but a bit pricy. There were $15 early bird meals which included dessert. But they charge $3 extra for soup or salad with meal and charged for second coup of tea (at $2.95 per coup). Service was ok, but a little rushed and not very attentive.

I have been vacationing in the west yarmouth/ colonial acres beach area for about 10 years now. We have never tried this restaurant because it is almost too close to our house it didn't feel like we were going "out to eat". Well man do I certainly regret not trying this place earlier! First off the atmosphere of the restaurant is sort of middle ground. It's not upscale, it's not a pub, it's a nice in between. It's very large and comfortable inside and the water wheel outside is very cool! We were a group of 6, they start you off with freshly made bread and oil. You could make a meal out of the bread just delicious. We all ordered different drinks and entrees. You have to try the Adult shakes, Absolutely delicious! Next, the entrees: We all Loved them! Prime rib, Thai chicken, fish of the day, NY sirloin are all recommended! Then to top it off the dessert was amazing. I had the caramel cake which was portioned perfectly. Our service was wonderful and the owner was very warm friendly. We will return very soon.

Best seafood I have had all year! I was staying at the Bayside Inn and they have me a coupon. So I checked the menu out and called in take out. The guy taking the call said leave in 13 minutes. So I did the food was ready when I arrived the trio of shrimp, haddock, sole and rice and spinach. The spinach was cooked but not like baby food! Amazing taste! Worth eating here!! Beautifully decorated also!

Family of 6 this evening, 4 kids ranging in age from 7 to 13. The wait time for everything was excessive. After getting drinks we waited 35 minutes for food. Waitress never came back to check in or refresh drink order. We had empty glasses for 20-25 minutes. The waitress was in a rush when our food finally arrived, she handed something to my 11y.o. But let go of it too soon and it slammed off the table, a little unnerving. The dish for my oldest wasn't as ordered, sent it back but it came back wrong again but we just kept at that point. Our second round of drinks came just as we were finishing our meals and I really had no interest in my 2nd glass of wine. So all in all the service was poor, not sure why, perhaps understaffed? Not sure. As for the food it was actually quite good, nothing memorable but just good. Total time in the restaurant was an hour and 35 minutes which seemed quite long given the lack of service. Obviously not a place on a Friday night with 4 kids.

My wife and I went here for dinner this past Thursday evening. The atmosphere was quaint and charming. I Was having trouble deciding between the peppered pork chops or the steak poivre. I asked our waiter his opinion and he suggested the steak. Wow! This was one of the best meals I have ever had. I have had steak in at least 20 of some of the finest steakhouses in NY and Boston. Yarmouth House was definitely up there in the ranks. Cooked perfectly and the sauce was unusually great. My wife ordered the chicken parm, she thought is was "ok". Selfishly, I enjoyed my meal and left nothing left on the plate. Service was good. Prices are very fair. Ambiance was nice. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area. I'm salivating over that meal as I sit here and type this review. Enjoy!

Yarmouth House was amazing! Ee started off with the chicken soup that was amazing! Then shared the stuffed mushroom caps. They were were awesome! Better than mine the wife said. Our waiter Bib was excellent! He did a great job. We commend him on a job well done! Thanks! This was our first anniversary. We wanted to spend it in Cape Cod and Bob made it memorable for us! Now, the downside - spent $16 on a cranberry and 7 up and a Blue Safire and tonic. A little pricey. I'd expect to pay that in NYC or Baltimore, not Cape Cod . The owner also ran into me and shoved me out of the way prior to our seating. He did not apologize. He even sat us and said nothing. The only reason why I knew who they renew is that my wife and I overheard this guy talking to his wife at a table where she sat. Excluding this, an the owners arrogance towards me by not apologizing, I'd still recommend Yarmouth a House because of the food, atmosphere , and our waiter Bob. Way to go Bob you made our night 1st anniversary special! Thank you! .

Really great food, atmosphere, and prices. I ordered a Thai salad which was awesome!! My husband got steak tips. He likes them cooked medium he said most of them were, some of the larger pieces were a little less cooked but overall he was very happy. My 4yo got Mac n' cheese which was AWESOME! Compared to the kraft (it was more like Panera's) however, she did not care for it since it was not kraft.

Best prime rib around. Tender & flavorful. My boyfriend served here for a little while and said they sit in the au ju sauce for days to soak in the flavor. YUM. It's so good, I never get anything else when I come here even though everything else looks so good. I always leave saying, "I HAVE to try something else next time but that prime rib is just too good." My boyfriend usually gets the chicken parm which is alright, in my opinion but he seems to love it. The sauce is a little spicier than a mariana should be, almost has a mexican taste to it.. not great for an authentic italian like me. We have also gotten the Asian chicken appetizer which was good and different, but very spicy so buyer beware. On our anniversary we got a HUGE "2 person" drink. We like to drink and we couldn't even finish this "2 person" drink. Again, buyer beware, 3 or 4 people could split this. Strong and tasty, fruity!! Every time we have gone we have had outstanding service except for the last time. It was 5pm on a Thursday and we had the best seat in the house with the worst server. Not personable, didn't tell us the specials, didn't take off the $10 coupon we had that we gave him at the beginning of the meal, just not good all around. Still doesn't take away from the 5 star quality of this place because of 1 fluke during the off season (winter). However, as a "classy, upscale" restaurant, they pride themselves on good service. This guy has been there so long they will probably never get rid of him no matter how bad he was... But I don't think anything will keep us away from this place or thinking badly of it!!

One of two places that were recommended for us to visit in Yarmouth - the other was Salty's, and trust me the review of that place is NOT a good one! Yarmouth House is a nice treat, good ambiance, great food! The staff was very attentive to my mother, who has a gluten allergy, and made sure she had everything she needed. We left very satisfied, so thank you to the staff!

Pros: Food was very good Wait staff was attentive Ambience equivalent to the food No wait for a table (yet we did get there by 6) Cons: Not kid friendly While the food was good we found it very pricey. ($36 for a lobster, $7 a beer) REALLY ? We had a $10 off coupon from the Cape Cod guide. They waiter came back to our table after giving it with the credit card to say that it wasn't from their restaurant ? He then asked for the Guide, to which he showed the management staff.. well they were only able to take off $5 as the $26 salmon was on the special menu. If you don't have kids and don't mind spending $80 a head on a meal (incl. app) with two drinks this place is for you !

After spending a few days on the Cape after our wedding, we (me, Hubs, and his parents) went to the Yarmouth House before we left to head back home. We showed up on a (holiday) Monday around 5 and had no problem getting a table. And then we waited. For awhile. It wasn't until we asked another server to track down our server were we able to order drinks which took another 10 minutes. At any rate, it was a little bit of a rocky start, but our server was really nice and she was fast with everything else. We started off with the calamari appetizer and the arancini small plate appetizer. Both of them came to our table in virtually no time. I was a little weary of "fast" calamari, but it was delicious and the arancini was delicious. Hubs ordered the prime rib which was practically falling off the plate. I had the swordfish special of the day that was cooked to perfection, although smothered in butter. Overall, it was a good cut of fish and it was accompanied with asparagus and potatoes. Delish! My mother in law had an early bird special that came with dessert and we all split a chocolate cake a la mode. It completed the meal perfectly. With all things considered, it was a good meal and a pleasant experience. Sure, it took a few extra minutes for our server to get to us, but she apologized and never left us waiting for anything. The restaurant certainly attracts an older crowd, but do not be fooled because there is certainly something for everyone. I definitely will return.

Great food and friendly service. We really had a good experience. The restaurant has a cozy, warm feeling and the people are extremely nice. My mother and I had the haddock and chips and it was delicious. The kids plates are generous and the choices of menu was great. I recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area. It's not the cheapest place to eat, but the food and the service are worth it.

We just had Thanksgiving Dinner there and it was great! It was very crowded when we arrived, but they seated us within 20 minutes of arrival. The owner/host was fully in command, and runs a tight operation. Our waiter Tim was quick to get us drinks, rolls and water, and then left us a minute or two to decide on entrees. We had Turkey and the Holiday Sampler (Ham, Turkey, and Lamb). They were both great, and Tim was right there to offer a refill of our wine when requested. We sat right next to the water mill, and the restaurant had a very festive atmosphere. This is our 2nd Thanksgiving there, and it likely will not be the last. Nice job!

Service was excellent and the ambiance is nice. Not the best chowder on the cape but still better than most. I had a steamed lobster which is a no-brainer but my wife had the sole and loved it.

Typical not very good food. Owner was yelling at the bartender when we walked in, it was an uncomfortable situation lol. They seated us next to the water wheel, between that and the music I was falling asleep. Waitress was fine, food was lousy. Not for us.

We went around the end of March. We ordered calamari and lobster fritters for appetizers, and split a lobster thermidor for the main course. What I liked - the ambiance was good, the noise level was good - we could easily hear each other, but it was not quiet. The calamari was great, the lobster thermidor was good but we've had better (as in,the one at Atlantic Fish Company is waay better) , but this too had plenty of good chunks of fresh lobster meat. There were plenty of other delish looking items on the menu, but you can only try so much at one visit! :P What I did not like - we got lobster fritters, which seemed delicious from their description. But when they showed up, they tasted like fried seasoned bread dipped in batter. There was no lobster to be detected by visual inspection or by the palate! Even though our server was very sweet and made good recommendations, service could be more prompt.

Was Sunday evening, Memorial Day weekend. We were tired driving around, so we decide stop there for dinner. The parking was full, looks like local favorite but not ours. Nice atmosphere, big menu but over priced and not very friendly wait staff. It is so many places to eat in Cape Cod, so if you call yourself "fine dining" you must be much better. The food was kind of boring. Clam chowder was very average. Lobster Fritters was very deep fried and some kind of tough to chew. They were distasteful. Stuffed Haddock was good. Garlic mussels over pasta was less then average and when the waiter bring the dish, the sauce was spill all over plate (does not it look appetizing). It was a bad dinner. Do not choose a restaurant when you're tired.

Only been once, but it was memorable. I am gun shy about ordering scallops because they can be rubbery, flavorless, or just too small of a portion. Well yarmouth house delivered a wonderful huge plate of scallops with linguini, and there must have been 25 scallops or more. Expensive prices here, but the portions and quality of service and atmosphere were worth it. i consider it a "special occasion" only type of restaurant, it's a bit higher than our usual dinner budget- but definitely give it a try for that next special occasion.

Was here for Thanksgiving. There was an amazingly large crowd yet all got seated and served in reasonable time. The host and servers were all pleasant with holiday cheer. And despite the huge crowd the food came quickly and it was well cooked. We had sole piccata, turkey, ham and lamb dinners, all perfectly prepared. These folks have figured out how to deliver an excellent holiday meal to a crowd , with good humor and attentive service. Kudos for mastering the restaurant Olympics!

Wow! What a restaurant. From the outside you believe you are going into a family style eatery. When you step inside you are transformed into a seasonably decorated atmosphere that shows the love that only an owner of 38 years could provide. Bill, our waiter was everything that you ask for in table service. The entire meal was delightful. Beginning with warm baked bread and dipping oil, followed by a perfectly made Caesar Salad with lots of Parmesan cheese. Next up was a spectacular 20 oz prime rib cooked to perfection with great seasoning and a nice salty au jus. The baked potato was light toasted with flakes of sea salt and accompanied by butter and sour cream. If this wasn't enough, Bill suggested the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Bill couldn't have picked a better ending to a perfect afternoon. I have been to more expensive eateries but the service, atmosphere and food at Yarmouth House rival any 5 star restaurant. I would recommend YH to anyone going to the Cape in the off season. During the summer months wear your boxing gloves and be prepared for 15 three minute rounds of waiting!

We tried Yarmouth House on Memorial Day weekend after reading some good reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The restaurant itself is a tad outdated and quite large. We arrived at the restaurant around 6pm for an early dinner. There were only five other tables dining when we arrived, and everyone besides us was part of the "older than 75" crowd. I ordered a black angus burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions ($10.95) and my friends ordered the chicken Parmesan ($13.95), lobster salad sandwich ($16.95), and gorgonzola salad ($10.95). When the waiter brought me my hamburger, it was covered with American cheese (not blue cheese) and raw onions (instead of caramelized). I felt horrible, but I had to send my hamburger back since I absolutely hate American cheese. Ten minutes later when the waiter brought me another hamburger, I noticed that all the chef did was take the burger he had incorrectly prepared and covered it with blue cheese. I therefore had to send it back again explaining that I didn't want American cheese on the burger. The waiter rolled his eyes and told me I would have to wait another twenty minutes before getting a new burger. When he finally brought me the burger, it had the blue cheese but no onions. Oh, well. Maybe the chef can only handle one burger topping at a time. The chicken Parmesan was also horrible. The outside of the chicken was very hot, but when you got to the middle, it was actually frozen. It was very disheartening to learn that our food was not freshly prepared but rather frozen and nuked to its "proper" temperature. I do feel like this restaurant has potential. The hostess was super friendly as well as some of the other wait staff we met. I won't be returning however until Yarmouth House decides to hire a new chef - one who has passion for his/her work and takes the time to make food fresh to order.

My husband and I went to The Yarmouth House last evening and had a great experience. We sat in the wheel room. The entire restaurant was decorated for fall. I had a chefs special shrimp tortelloni that they should add to the menu. We highly recommend the restaurant.

Came here in a group of four and were seated at a nice table by the window (as we requested when making the reservation). The atmosphere is very comfortable, inviting and even cozy. Our waitress was very pleasant but at times was slow due to the fact that the restaurant was full. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious! The portions were just right and the price wasn't bad either. Highly recommend!

Good selection on menu and specials. We were very happy with the prime rib and scallops+haddock dish. Good, friendly service

We've lived on the Cape and now visit often. We go to the Yarmouth House frequently. Typically the service is very good as is the food. Once we had a dish that was truly poor--a special no less. We do not consider this fine dining but moderate and comfortable. It can be pricy but there is almost always something suitable for a moderate or even reasonable price on the extensive menu. I took two French students to dine there and they loved the beef and thought the bread was the best they'd had during their 3 week stay with us. We always buy YH's delicious olive oil which is about $7. a bottle and is delicious either to cook with or dip bread at home. Especially if one goes there off season the crowd will be on the elderly side as so many retire to beautiful Cape Cod and many Cape Codders go to the YH regularly. When guests visit, the YH is where we most often suggest dining together.

If I could give different stars for different parts of the dining experience, I would. I will rate them in order of experience. Ambience: 5 stars - Festively decorated for Halloween, cozy, and the water wheel is pretty great. Waitress: 5 stars - Very friendly, helpful, and attentive. She really knew the menu and was patient with us when we had trouble deciding what to order. Dinner: 3 stars - I had the blackened salmon with cajun spices. It came with rice and sauteed spinach. There was nothing particularly memorable about the dish. The fish was fine. The spinach was sauteed... what else can you say about it? And I should have known better than to order something with rice from an American cuisine restaurant. It was a bit overcooked and had all these spices and flavorings that hadn't been described in the menu, which weren't bad or anything, they just didn't really go with the meal. Dessert: 4 stars - We shared the pumpkin cheesecake. The texture and flavor were amazing! Just the thing for a fall treat. Since the main meal is the reason I go out to eat, I have to give this place 3 stars despite all the other things I liked about it, because I was just disappointed in the food.

We loved it. My boyfriend and I have been here twice while on vacation. I ordered the salmon once and a steak another time and loved both meals. My boyfriend's meals were great too he said. Service was awesome both times we went, each time we were seated in the room with the water wheel, which made me very happy. Only thing I don't like about this restaurant is when they give you your sour cream they put it on for you, then that's it, you would have to embarrassingly ask for more when you want more, so I can never really finish my baked potato here. This practice is a bit old fashioned. But the food here is great, service exceptional, and the price is fair.

Yarmouth House is a beautiful restaurant, very cozy interior with the type of charm you expect of Cape Cod fine dining. There is always a long list of chef's specials that all sound great, I always have a difficult time deciding. Word to the wise: save room for dessert. The Yarmouth House brownie is one of the best, most decadent desserts I can think of, and totally worth the indulgence! I have never had a problem with the service here, though the maitre'd is awfully standoffish. Our waitress the last time we were in (Gretchen) was a pleasure!

Love the Yarmouth House. It's perfect for date night, girls night or a function like a wedding. I know this because I have been there for all the above. Plus we keep coming back. A good pour on the cocktails and consistently good, quality food.

Recently, I've had the pleasure of dining at the Yarmouth House Restaurant. There is a warm and romantic setting inside the restaurant as there are dim lights and candles everywhere. There weren't many people dining that night. In fact, we were the only ones in our section which made our dinner more private and intimate. We ordered 3 appetizers: scallops wrapped in bacon= good. scallops could be bigger. mussels marinara= excellent. probably one of best i've had! oysters rockerfella= we actually ordered the stuffed mushrooms but waitress goofed this up. we just took it when it came out to us...whatever ya know...but unfortunately, the oysters were no good, they didnt taste fresh at all.... for entrees: chicken atlantis = it's chicken, lobster, and rice all together in one dish. i thought it was very tasty and creative. chicken and butternut squash ravoli= didn't get to eat much of this as i was too busy with mine. the few bites i took seemed pretty good to me. we also had a bottle of pino and worked well with all the seafood...when i got the bill, i thought it was worth it. i didn't think the meal was expensive at all. everyone who worked there seemed really nice too...service with a smile; sometimes it makes a huge difference.

Went to dinner here on the first night of my vacation because it was close to my hotel and to be quite honest, it was the most disappointing meal I had while in Cape Cod. The waitress was nice, the bread with olive oil was nice and that is about it. I had duck because it was on the special menu, it was okay at best. Boyfriend had the chicken parm and I have had better from a pizzeria. Maybe we should've ordered seafood but I would save my money and not come back.

It's not as bad as "meh" but it should've been better. The mussels Isabella were quite good and the corn chowder special was tasty (mmmm bacon). But the twin lobsters my wife and I ordered were over cooked. For a chef's special that's pretty careless. It was a little on the pricey side considering the family-style atmosphere.

Hostess and servers were friendly. Food just okay...my husband had Cajun swordfish. It was cooked okay but only seasoned in one spot. The rest of his meal was pretty bland even though smothered with some yellow sauce. I had scallop carbanara with tortellini. It was okay...very saucy. The scallops did not taste fresh...if your thinking to order ask if fresh or frozen. Only thing that was half decent, was bread with house olive oil dip! This was not worth the $80 we paid!

Sort of sad to report a bad experience at The Yarmouth House. Last year, our group of six really enjoyed both the food and service. This year, neither was the case and it was truly disappointing. Our server neglected our table and the food just wasn't as good as it had been the year before. On our way out the manager asked one of the girls I was traveling with about our dinner. My friend expressed her concerns and it didn't really seem to achieve much. Awkwardly, the server came over and put herself into the mix. When we were leaving, another server heading to her car came up to say our waitress "sucked"... Which is pretty amusing. So maybe it was just that, but I'm not going back to find out if that was the case.

Lobster and crab cakes were awesome but the lobster bisque was not very good. Too much sherry and too thick. The calamari was overcooked, but perhaps the cook had a bad day.

Great food and wonderful service. Prompt, but not rushed at all. Best teriyaki wings I've ever had. Not too expensive, either!

My wife, Sheila, & I dined at the Yarmouth House this evening and were very pleased with the restaurant, our dinners, and the service. We were a little anxious going there because of some of the reviews we had read. We arrived around 6:30 P.M. and pulled into the YH driveway to find a large tour bus unloading it's last few passengers. We decided to go inside any way and survey the scene. I'm glad we did! Not only did we have a small wait (5 minutes!), we were fortunate enough to get a table in the water wheel room with it's excellent ambience and relaxing atmosphere. Our waiter, Tim, came over shortly and took our drink order. Tim was very attentive and even checked with the kitchen to see if I could get a Fra Diavolo sauce on my grilled shrimp - a version I had seen on an older menu apparently. He was able to obtain the spicier version of the dish for me. You really appreciate it when your waiter or waitress goes out of their way to accommodate you. Our wines, a house Pinot Grigio & a Malbec, were both excellent! We ordered the boneless Buffalo wings with Gorgonzola cheese for an appetizer. They came with celery sticks & carrots and were excellent! The bread was very good with an herbed olive oil dip. The $3 side salads - we got the Caesar - were pretty average, but they did have a very generous amount of shredded Parmesan cheese. Sheila ordered the peppered pork chop which was nice & spicy, and she loved it. She could only finish one of the chops, so we took the second one back to the Inn for lunch tomorrow. I found the grilled shrimp Diavolo over linguini excellent as well! Even the water, filtered tap, was delicious, and Tim was very attentive refilling our glasses! We finished up sharing a huge delicious Mud Pie dessert, which was more than enough for the two of us. A lot of reviewers complained about high prices. We thought the prices were commensurate with the quality and overall ambiance - linen tablecloths, & napkins, for example. We're happy to recommend the Yarmouth House to anyone looking for an excellent dining experience! Jim & Sheila M. Dedham, MA

I have been coming here for years with my family. We really enjoying sitting in the water wheel room for dinner. Our most recent visit we were unable to sit in that room, but still had a very nice time. The ambiance of the restaurant wasn't quite the same, but it is nice none the less. Our waiter was very nice, but very slow and didn't seem to have it together that evening. This is the first time I have had less then excellent service at the Yarmouth House. This didn't have an effect on our evening though as we were in no hurry. I started out my meal with Roasted Duck Breast Hors d'Oeuvre, which was the special that night. It was a very nice dish, but they went a little heavy on the orange glaze for my taste. The duck was cooked perfectly though. I had the Filet Mignon and Lobster special for my dinner. Everything about my this meal was perfect. The Filet was cook just how I ordered it and you can't go wrong with Lobster on the Cape. Finished the meal with the Caramel Apple Crumbcake ... amazing! We had a great night once again, even if the service and location in the restaurant wasn't great. We will be sure to return again.

I would rate this restaurant mediocre, which is disappointing considering the prices. The calamari appetizer we had was excellent, however the seafood special we had was overcooked, and the cowboy steak was completely overpowered by the gloppy bourbon sauce it was swimming in. Excellent martini and other mixed drinks we had also.

This was once a small-ish neighborhood restaurant just outside Hyannis. It has expanded about 4x the original size and can seat probably 200 diners at once. We walked in at 730pm during a busy summer night and 7 of us were seated. The service was good and the food was good. You get HUGE portions. The menu is a good mix of seafood, steaks and Italian. if you can't find something on this menu you don't like to eat - I remember it being several pages long. The desserts are the high point - save room. When all is said and done - the Yarmouth House does everything well but nothing really exceptional. Expect a good meal with reliable service. Given all the other dinning options in the area, I can't imagine people will "crave" coming to here. But if you do find yourself sitting at the table you probably won't be disappointed.

Excellent food at an affordable price! I would recommend the seafood paella and the lobster mac and cheese. Good atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and "real people making real food" in the kitchen. We will be back!

After my parents recommendation my girlfriend and I decided to try this restaurant. Since it was a sat night we decided to make reservations, and drove about 40 mins to get there. As we pulled in to the parking lot the place was packed. No parking anywhere closeby, we ended up in one of their overflow lots that wasn't even paved, just sand. I took this to be a sign that the food was good, if it was that crowded. When we got inside to the waiting area, it was even worse, you had to step over people to get to the host station. I checked in with the host and told him we were a little early. He wrote my name down on the list and then just started doing something else, with no response, just leaving me standing there wondering if we would have to wait or if it was ok that we were early. Luckily we were seated within a few mins. The dining room was extremely loud and packed to the brim, tables almost on top of each other, with little room to walk thru. I ordered the twin stuffed lobsters $42, and my gf ordered the chicken oscar $20 and a pear martini. She took one sip of the martini and couldn't believe how bad it was. No flavor except for straight alcohol. She had to send it back. She didn't like her meal any better, but just ate what she could of it and didn't bother sending that back as well. The food was very quick tho, esp for how crowded it was. The stuffed lobster was overflowing with bread crumbs. I couldn't believe how much was on it, it was more than the meat itself. I had to scrape the majority of it off as it was overwhelming. Once I got down to the lobster it was very tasty. Looking back I should have just ordered the steamed lobster. After our waitress dropped off our dinners, we didn't see her again til we were almost done, but i cant' blame her because she was running around trying to attend to all her tables. It is just impossible to give the people the proper service when there are that many people. They either need to hire more help and expand the restaurant or limit the people going in, because it seems there are just trying to turn tables not give you a nice meal. There are so many other restaurants on the cape, i wouldn't bother going back here again.

Actually I would give the Yarmouth House a 2 1/2 star rating because of false advertising. On the outside sign it says "Early Bird Dinners $12.50". (It may have been $12.95.) When handed the early bird menu, there was only one meal, sole, for $12.50. All the others went up to $20. We went to the Yarmouth House because we had eaten there before, knew the food was good, but wanted to use the early bird menu due to budget. What a disappointment. We had to choose from the regular more expensive menu. I doubt we will go there again.

I was extremely disappointed with the Yarmouth House. We recently went there on a Sunday night. It was steady. We were seated very quickly by the hostess & our waiter arrived shortly after. Our waiter was ok, but not much of a personality. Our food arrived very fast. I got the chicken marsala, my boyfriend got the trio of lobster, prime rib & pork chop. Let me just say the entrees were not very good. Chicken was gristly, & his so called prime rib didn't look like prime rib & was tough. I had heard such good things about the Yarmouth House, sadly my experience didn't measure up. The food was seriously overpriced for the quality of it. i don't mind paying $$$$ for a real good meal, but this was not a very good meal. We will not be going back here.

Went in early on a Tuesday. The surroundings were very nice (inside and out) and I felt it was a good experience from the start. I went after the 2 1/2 lb stuffed lobster. It came stuffed with big sea scallops and nice sized shrimp in the cavity, a seasoned cracker crumb stuffing and mashed potatoes on the side. I definitely got a huge portion meal and it took a good long time to eat as well. We went to eat at 4-4:30, so it was pretty slow for them at the time. I finished everything with a little help from my wife and her friend. They had wonderful dishes as well. My wife had the lobster thermidor and her friend had the stuffed scallops. Her husband had the italian combo (special of lasagna and veal parm). I was worried that the dress code would be too strict, but it wasn't that harse. They ask for no tank tops, no cells and shoes are required. The price of my dinner was ~ $50, but what do you expect with a 2 1/2 pound lobster!? The other prices were very reasonable and the food and service was excellent. Just a side note, the specials come with coffee or tea and dessert, but you must ask for what dessert is offered with it. We assumed we could choose from the cart and were mistaken. The server asked if we wanted it to take with us, so that was good. None of us wanted to think of food again after eating all of that, so we declined and paying for the dessert after all wasn't a big deal. The server did not charge us for the coffee which came with the special and we had two servings, so we thought that more than made up for the dessert confusion. Great place to have a quiet, comfortable meal with friends and young adults. I would say it's a bit less accommodating to young children, but it does present itself as a more adult restaurant anyway. Make this place a definite stop on your vacation if you're in the area!!!

Came on a Friday night, off-season. We were seated right away (3 people) and our waiter, who had to be pushing 70, was actually really good! Have seen reviews here for slow service, we didn't see it. Calamari appetizer was crispy, but looked like there were more peppers than calamari. What was there was delicious. We had 2 1/2 lobsters, boiled, and the seafood fra diavolo(sp?). Lobster was awesome, and every bit the 2 1/2 pounds they advertised. The Fra Diavolo was also very good, not over spicy. I only give it 4 stars because the calamari was a little skimpy, but otherwise, it was a terrific dining experience.

Food was a 5, service was a 1! Beyond excellent steamed lobsters, prime rib was amazing, unique baked potatoes and perfectly prepared side vegetables. Had to ask for water twice, re-request a steak knife after she dropped it, ask multiple times for sour cream, remind her for the butter for the lobster and request my half lobster she forgot. Other tables appeared to be moving well, so assume it was our waitress.
